Where I work two provinces · three municipalities · one bakkie

The Vaal Triangle, Sasolburg and beyond.

I'm Danie du Toit, based in Vanderbijlpark. I cover six towns and the plots between them, and each one gets a different kind of job, so each one has its own page. Not sure whether you are in my area? Send your suburb on WhatsApp and I will tell you straight.

Vanderbijlpark
at the middle of it.

Everything I cover sits within an easy run of Vanderbijlpark: Vereeniging and Three Rivers to the east, Sasolburg and Vaalpark over the river to the south, Meyerton and the plots to the north-east. I don't advertise towns I can't actually serve properly.

The Vaal Triangle is unusual: it straddles two provinces and, for my six towns, three different municipalities. That is why "phone the municipality" is different advice depending on which side of the river you are standing on, and why each town page carries its own numbers.

Travel & callout two bands, measured from Vanderbijlpark

What it costs to get me there.

Straightforward jobs I can price on WhatsApp for nothing, everywhere I work. Where a job needs a physical diagnosis on site, there are two callout bands, measured from Vanderbijlpark. All six towns on this page are in the first one. After that you get the price in writing before I start, and 1.5× after hours and on weekends. No town pays a travel surcharge on top.

Further afield on request: Parys, Deneysville, Vaal Marina, Heidelberg and beyond. Send me the address and I'll tell you what the travel comes to before anyone gets in a bakkie.

Something burning, sparking or a whole house dead while the neighbours have power? Message me and you'll get a straight answer: either that I'm taking it and when I can come, or a plain "phone someone closer to you". I'd rather say that than hold your emergency in a queue.
Power off? phone the right people first, then me

Three municipalities.
Three answers.

If the streetlights and your neighbours are dark too, it is on the supply side, and nothing at your board will fix it. Who you phone depends on where you are standing, and that is the part most Vaal websites get wrong.

  1. Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging, Three Rivers

Emfuleni Local Municipality, Gauteng. Municipal supply areas, Eskom-supplied areas, and prepaid or smart meter enquiries each have their own line.

    Municipal 016 430 1612 · Eskom 0860 037 566 · meters 016 931 0707
  2. Sasolburg, Vaalpark

Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Free State — a different province and a different utility. The Emfuleni numbers are no use to you; the right number is printed on your municipal account.

    Eskom-supplied properties: 0860 037 566
  3. Meyerton and the plots

Midvaal Local Municipality, Gauteng — and many smallholdings are supplied directly by Eskom rather than by the municipality. Check your bill; send me a photo of the meter if it isn't clear.

    Eskom 0860 037 566 or 0860 001 414
Only your house is dark, or one side of it? That one's mine. Send a photo of the open board.
The line between their job and my job

Outages still happen here, planned and unplanned. When the power comes back it often comes back with a spike, and that is the damage insurers are least likely to pay for. Surge protection at the board is a small piece of hardware I fit myself, and one of the most useful things I put in.

Ask about surge protectionA photo of the open board is all I need.
Area questions before you message me

Straight answers.

Do you charge a travel fee to any of these towns?
No surcharge on top. The callout is R300, and I waive it when you accept the quote. Travel outside the Vaal Triangle is charged at the AA rate per kilometre and quoted before I drive. The prices for the work itself are the same in every town.
My suburb isn't listed. Do you still come?
Often, yes. The plots and smallholdings between these towns are normal work for me, and I go further afield on request: Parys, Deneysville, Vaal Marina, Heidelberg and beyond. Send your address on WhatsApp. If you are close enough for me to do the job properly and come back if something goes wrong, I will say yes, and tell you which callout band you're in. If not, I will say so instead of taking a callout fee for a job I can't support.
Why is Sasolburg treated differently?
Because it genuinely is different. Sasolburg and Vaalpark fall under Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State, not Emfuleni in Gauteng. Different municipality, different prepaid vendor, different tariff, different people to phone about an outage. My prices don't change, and neither does the paperwork: the electrical regulations and the national wiring standard are set nationally, so the certificate is the same document on either side of the river. The local advice does change, so those two towns have their own pages.
Do you work Saturdays?
Yes, Saturday mornings until 13:00, in any of the six towns. Weekend work is charged at 1.5×, and you hear that number before I leave home. Sunday and after-hours callouts are for genuine emergencies only, quoted on WhatsApp first.
