I'm Danie du Toit, based in Vanderbijlpark and out on the Meyerton plots most weeks. On a plot, distance is the fault.
Meyerton and the smallholdings around it are a different job to town work. The supply comes in at one corner and everything else — the house, the shed, the workshop, the borehole, the cottage, the pump at the dam — hangs off long runs of cable that were often laid to reach, not to carry. So the lights dim when the pump kicks in, the far building never gets full voltage, and motors run hot and die young. Swapping the breaker does nothing. Sizing the cable properly does.
A lot of plot land out here is supplied directly by Eskom rather than by the municipality, and Meyerton itself sits in Midvaal Local Municipality — not Emfuleni. That changes who you phone when the power goes: Eskom on 0860 037 566 for direct-supply properties, Midvaal for municipal areas. It also means the point where my work starts and their work ends is often out at a pole, not at your wall, and I will show you exactly where that line falls before anyone gets billed for anything.
The rest of it is plot reality: joints buried years ago in the wrong kind of box, outbuildings added one at a time with no record of what feeds what, cottages and workshops running off a house circuit, and gates and pumps far from the house that need their own battery backup so a two-hour outage doesn't leave you locked in or dry. Certificates on a plot take longer too, and cost more than a town house, for an honest reason: there is more installation to inspect and test. The house, the cottage, the shed, the pump circuits and every run between them are all part of your installation. A certificate that only looked at the house is not worth the paper. A certificate, plug points, lights, a geyser element or fencing I can price on WhatsApp. A fault has to be found first, so that one gets priced after I’ve looked. The Certificate of Compliance is R3 000 for the first DB board, and additional boards are quoted.

Meyerton and the plots are the longest run of my six towns, and I won't pretend otherwise. The prices stay the same: free quotes on WhatsApp for straightforward jobs, then a R300 callout, waived when you accept the quote. You get the price in writing before I start, and 1.5× after hours. What changes is the diary: I plan plot work together and try to group two or three, so plot jobs are booked rather than squeezed in.
Two honest warnings for plot jobs. First, tracing a fault along a few hundred metres of run can take more than the first hour, and I will say so before I start rather than let the clock surprise you. Second, if a job needs trenching or a full re-cable, you get a written quote before anything is dug, and I would rather come out twice than guess a number at your gate.
Meyerton is in Midvaal Local Municipality, so the Emfuleni contact numbers that cover Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging are not the ones for you. Many plots are Eskom-supplied directly, and for those every outage, meter and supply question goes to Eskom.
