Electrician in Sasolburg

Board tripping? Geyser cold? Selling, and you need a CoC on the Free State side?

I'm Danie du Toit. I'm based in Vanderbijlpark and I cross the river into Sasolburg every week. Tell me what's happening on WhatsApp, with a photo if you have one. A certificate, a geyser element or new points I can price from there. A fault has to be found on site, so that one carries the R300 callout and a written price before any work. Same prices as the Gauteng side — I just tell you the travel honestly.

Sasolburg is a different province and that changes real things

Across the river, and across the line.

Sasolburg is not Emfuleni and it is not Gauteng. It falls under Metsimaholo Local Municipality, in the Fezile Dabi district of the Free State. That matters on the day something goes wrong: the Emfuleni outage numbers on my home page are no use to you, the smart-meter programme running through Vanderbijlpark is not your programme, and your prepaid vendor and tariff are Metsimaholo's, not Emfuleni's. Your municipal bill has the right number on it — that is the one to phone, not 016 430 1612.

What does not change is the law. The electrical regulations and the national wiring standard are set nationally, and so is registration with the Department of Employment and Labour. Just tell me what the property is and I'll sort it out; it gets done properly, with the inspection and the tests actually done. A Certificate of Compliance for a Sasolburg house is exactly the same document, with the same test report, as one for a house in Vanderbijlpark, and the same rule applies: a property may not change hands on a certificate older than two years, or on one that ignores work done since.

The housing helps me here. Much of Sasolburg went up as company housing around Sasol, so the same house plan repeats down whole streets — and so do the faults. When I have found a tired geyser isolator or an undersized board in one of them, I usually know what I am walking into three doors down. I work Sasolburg town, the Vaalpark side and out towards Coalbrook.

Different municipality, different meter people. Same certificate, same law, same price from me.
What crossing the provincial line actually changes

The honest bit about travel: Sasolburg is a river crossing away from my base, so I plan Free State work in batches and I tell you when I can come. If you have a burning smell, sparking or a whole house dead, tell me and you get a straight answer on WhatsApp: either that I am taking it, or that you should call someone closer. I would rather lose the job than leave you waiting on me.

Selling in Sasolburg? Send me the suburb, how many DB boards the property has and whether there is a pool, a flatlet or an electric fence. You get an exact price back in writing. The certificate is R3 000 for the first DB board, additional boards quoted, and the test report comes with it.

Every job gets a written price before I start. A certificate, plug points, lights, a geyser element or fencing I can price on WhatsApp. A fault has to be found first, so that one gets priced after I’ve looked. The Certificate of Compliance is R3 000 for the first DB board, and additional boards are quoted.

The Sasolburg police precinct — which also covers Vaalpark and Coalbrook — recorded 1 844 crimes in the year to March 2026, down 11.7% overall, though house burglaries rose by 24 to 251. It is one of the few precincts in the Vaal where that number went up rather than down.

Getting to you and who to phone when it isn't your house

Same price.
Honest travel.

Crossing the provincial line does not change what I charge. A straightforward job I can price on WhatsApp for nothing. The callout is the same here R300, and I waive it when you accept the quote. Whatever the job turns out to be, you get the price in writing before I start it, and after hours and weekends are 1.5×, quoted before I leave. What crossing the line does change is planning: I batch my Free State work, and I will tell you when I can come before you commit to anything.

If a job is going to cost you more in waiting than it saves you in price, I will say so and point you to someone closer. That happens a few times a year and I have never regretted it.

Check anyone you hire — including me. Phone the Department of Employment and Labour on 051 505 6371 and ask them to confirm registration number. It is a national register, so it covers work in the Free State too.

Who to phone for an outage here: the electricity department of Metsimaholo Local Municipality — the number is printed on your municipal account, and it is the one to use, not Emfuleni's. If your property is supplied directly by Eskom rather than the municipality, that is 0860 037 566. Either way, if the streetlights and your neighbours are off too, it is not something at your board.

Sasolburg questions mostly about the provincial line

Before you phone.

Do you charge more to come to Sasolburg?
No. The callout is the same here R300, waived on quote acceptance, and the same written price before I start. Crossing the river does not add a fee.
What about an emergency in Sasolburg?
Tell me what it is doing. A burning smell, sparking, or a whole house dead while the neighbours have power gets a straight answer on WhatsApp: either that I am taking it and when I can be there, or a plain "phone someone closer to you". I won't take on an emergency I cannot get to from Vanderbijlpark.
My power is off in Sasolburg — who do I phone?
Not Emfuleni. Sasolburg is Metsimaholo Local Municipality, in the Free State, so their electricity department handles outages, prepaid vending and meter faults — the number is on your municipal account. If your property is supplied directly by Eskom, phone 0860 037 566. Check the neighbours and the streetlights first: if they are dark too, nothing at your board will fix it.
Is the certificate valid in the Free State?
Yes. The electrical regulations and the national wiring standard are set nationally, and so is registration with the Department of Employment and Labour. The registration number behind your certificate is in the footer of this page, and you are welcome to check it. The certificate and test report you get in Sasolburg are the same document as on the Gauteng side, and your attorney will treat them the same way.
Praat jy Afrikaans?
Ja. WhatsApp of bel in Afrikaans of Engels — dis vir my dieselfde. Jy kry 'n reguit antwoord en 'n prys op skrif voordat ek ry.
